New Cameras

This Year is one exciting one for new proconsumer cameras. With the RED Scarlet dropping people are on edge and everyone has something new. Canon with their new 7D success are a huge disappointment with the XF305 and XF300 are a disappointment. They are just good cameras nothing special and I’d rather wait for the Scarlet to drop before buying that thing. Sony just showed of their affordable’ 35mm digital cinema camera to get in the fight with RED. I’m excited about this camera I’m guessing it’s going to be funky fresh. The first 2nd digital camera with a 35mm censor. It’s still gonna cost around 20k another RED challenger is the ARRI’s ALEXA. This Camera can record in 4k but the gives abilty to get it out in ProRes for offline transferring and then getting that 4k for online. Nobody uses 4k except for hollywood and this camera is made for hollywood and it’s gonna cost around 60k.

The last camera we are really stoked on is the new Panasonic AF100. It’s certainly not in the same class as RED or ARRI Alexa. It is, however, a very interesting video rig for shooting flicks on a budget with its Micro Four Thirds sensor and collection of micro 4/3 lenses, filters, and adapters. The AF100 records native 1080/24p using the AVC/ H.264 Hi Profile AVCHD codec to a pair of SD slots supporting both SDHC and newer SDXC removable media. The AVCCAM HD camcorder features a pair of XLR inputs, 48-kHz/16-bit two-channel digital audio recording, and supports LPCM/Dolby-AC3; it also packs USB 2.0, HD-SDI out, HDMI, a built-in stereo mic, and time code recording. So yeah, it won’t record the next Hollywood blockbuster but it’ll probably do fine by indie filmmakers without breaking the average snowboard movie budget.
